Australian Council for Educational Leaders Awards

Congratulations to our Deputy Head (Academics), Jackie Camilleri and History and Geography teacher, Georgina Turner, who have both won awards from The Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL) New South Wales Branch.

Georgina won the Mary Armstrong Award for early career teacher leadership. This award is available to educators in the first five years of their professional careers who have led innovative practices that have influenced the learning agenda in their communities. Award winners would consequently have made a significant difference to child or student learning, teacher professional practice or organisational effectiveness.

Georgina joined King’s in July 2020 and has been a key staff member in the School’s History and Geography departments. Currently, Georgina is working through co-constructing the History IB (International Baccalaureate) courses alongside teaching across her broad range of classes both for students who require academic support, and challenging scholar and elective students.

Over the past three years, Georgina has also been working in the pastoral space as a house mentor, supporting service-learning activities such as through our Boys to Men Program and managing debating teams.

The King’s School Deputy Head (Academics), Jackie, has won the ACEL NSW Leadership Award. This award is presented to educators who have demonstrated exemplary performance in leading an educational organisation or initiative that has made a significant impact on or contribution to the outcomes for children or students, teacher professional learning or the practice or culture within an organisation.

Jackie has overseen some of the strongest academic results in the history of The King’s School, with the 2023 class receiving the School’s best HSC results on record. In the role, Jackie has also been key in the Senior School gaining authorisation to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program for Years 11 and 12, alongside the HSC and VET programs.

As peer-nominated and peer-reviewed awards, they recognise the contribution that colleagues have seen in both Jackie and Georgina’s work and is a great achievement for them both.
